Arthroscopy

It is a surgical procedure that doctors use to examine, diagnose, and treat problems inside a joint. This is recommended when the patients experience inflammation in the joints, have injured joints, or have deteriorated joints. Arthroscopy can be performed for any joint. Generally, it is done on the knee, shoulder, elbow, ankle, hip or wrist.

Doctors often perform this procedure if X-ray and other imaging studies have some gaps in the complete conclusion. The condition cured with this process include loose bone fragments, damaged or torn cartilage, etc.

Arthroscopy is one of the safest medical procedures and the probability of complications is very less. Possible complications may include:

  • Tissue or nerve damage
  • Infection
  • Blood clots

The exact preparation is linked to the type of joints that the surgeon wishes to treat with arthroscopy. As a precaution, doctors would advise stopping taking certain medications which increase the risk of bleeding. Solid foods are often prohibited before the surgery. The patient would not be allowed to drive himself/herself home, so there must be someone to pick them up. The patient must wear comfortable clothing.
BGS Gleneagles Global Hospitals is one of the best hospitals for arthroscopy in Bangalore. During the surgery, the patient is placed in the best position for having the procedure. One small incision is made for the viewing camera. Extra small incisions, around the joint, at different points helps the surgeon to insert surgical tools for grasping, cutting, grinding, and providing suction.
